We had booked a private car to pick us up and we were going to be picked up at At midnight the night before I received an email from eka jaya saying they had changed my booking and I was now going to be picked up at We had only just arrived into the country and just anrrived ant our hotel and already had plans for the morning which we had to cancel. I emailed eka jaya back and asked why we had been changed and they said all afternoon sailings had been cancelled a couple of weeks ago. Not sure why they left it to the last minute to tell me though if they knew weeks prior!? The trip itself was fine, but just took a lot longer than it was supposed to. Was supposed to take 2 hours but it took 4 with lots of waiting when we reached some of the other islands for drop offs/pick ups etc. at one point we waited at the wharf for 30 minutes and no one told you what was happening. On the way back the trip was 3 hours instead of 2. On top of the 2 hour car ride into Denpasar it made for a long when we got back to Padang Bai there was an afternoon sailing taking just felt like everything about this was super unorganised from the time we got to Padang Bai and I’d probably go with a different company next time. Read our transparency report to learn 2023 • CouplesAfter a very stressful and disorganised trip from padang bai to gili trawangan, in which we were herded around the port like cattle at the port with no explanation of why, made to pay for two extra unexpected fees again with no explanation, and our journey took almost twice as long as we were initially told, our expectations were certainly low for our return trip from gili t to Bali with Eka Jaya. However, what we did experience still managed to top the disorganisation, chaos and panic that we did expect! To start with, we emailed them the day before the trip to ask to change our arrival destination from Sarangan to Padang bai as we did not fancy spending 4+ hours on a boat, and to be fair to them, they replied very quickly and assured us that the changes have been received. However, they said that our boat departed at 1100 instead of 1230 and that this was a change to the departure time. We are very glad we did email them as we had no other communication at all that our departure time had been moved to an hour and a half earlier, and would have missed our boat otherwise!When we arrived to the check in office an hour before, they advised to wait until 1045 to check in only 15 mins before original departure. We paid our harbour tax which you are not told anywhere to pay until you get to the harbour and we’re told our boat is delayed by 20 mins. As we checked in at 1045 our boat suddenly arrived and we were told to run to the port as it would not wait, so the boat was in fact early, not delayed. Again, no proper communication at all!At the harbour, you are herded like cattle through the various check points and your bags are taken off you quickly, leaving you to hope that they have handled it carefully and stored it in the right place. The boat spends around 2 hours going between the other gili islands and Lombok before heading to Padang bai, which takes 1 hr 45 mins. It was advertised as a 1 hour total boat journey so, once again, this was completely incorrect boat was clean and comfortable inside, and they had tvs with movies for some entertainment on board which was a plus. However, the journey was incredibly choppy on the way, to the point where a few people were being sea sick and many were scared. Obviously choppy seas are not Eka Jaya’s fault, but the staff were being very unhelpful, offering no disclosure or comfort to the scared/sick passengers except handing out sick bags. The passenger next to me was sick, and they were slow giving a bag to her and even laughed at her, which was disgusting behaviour. Overall, the staff were very rude and unhelpful, and seemed to find passengers horrible experiences arrival at Padang bai, you are overwhelmed by taxi drivers shoving their cards into your faces even as you are getting off of the boat into the jetty and some seemingly trying to scam overwhelmed and sick passengers. Getting our luggage back is also a chaotic and very claustrophobic experience due to the amount of people crowded around waiting during unloading, or selling taxis and drinks, and I feel lucky to have received both of our suitcases a very unpleasant and stressful experience which took all of our time and energy out of us to enjoy the rest of our day. Because the delay we had to pay extra for the taxi to wait for us. All this happened, because the ferry could not keep the schedule. This makes me really upset. Noting that the weather and water conditions are outside the control of the boat company so these aren't fair to comment on. They are undeserving of their bad reviews in my opinion, there isn't anything of note to complain about. We booked online through their website directly including additional private taxi pickup. We were contacted via whatsapp immediately to ensure transport was confirmed. We were dropped off, showed tickets, luggage tagged and escorted to the port. It was all very smooth. After boarding we were told we could sit on the top deck once the boat took off so hung around near the stairs leading up so we could get a seat. The boat took off 20min late due to some late arriving passengers, which did not feel like an unreasonable time to wait. Actual trip was comfortable and smooth sailing, and arrived to Gili T with no issues. On arrival the port was crowded no fault of Eka Jaya and luggage was passed onto the port for guests to figure out - this could be improved as guests were trying to grab bags as they were coming off coupled with existing crowding was a little busy, however i wouldn't say it was difficult or troublesome either. Bags are labeled and thrown on top deck. When they unload they pile them on the jetty at Gili T and it blocks the way for everyone. Make sure you fix your price in with any travel agent/info office when you book and stick to it. The reception at Padang Bai asked for 300k more which we declined and sorted out with no further issues. The actual crossing was smooth, quick and decent. Although it appears they oversold as 5 people or so were stood or sat in the gangway. Large boat, no overbooking. Baggage handled well. Enough staff. AC worked just fine. No bumps, felt safe all through the journey. Toilet could have been use blue-water-express, so cannot compare with it. But, certainly a competent option, undeserving of severely negative reviews. My return trip was with Semaya. The boat was over its passengers full capacity. Not enough life jackets or rafts for everyone obviously. People were standing up the whole trip. I think the earlier boat is on time most of the time, whereas the later boats can be delayed. If there are delays, communication from staff isn't the best. The price was decent you have to pay 10k 70ct rupees extra fee at the harbour, and the personal were helpful. Nothing got stolen or lost on the way and the ferry was as fast as advertised we left 20min late and arrived 20min late.The most important thing is that Eka jaya has by far the biggest boats out of all speed boat companies. The crossing from Bali to lombok can get pretty choppy, and the smaller boats really aren't built to handle large swells. The Eka jaya boat does way better due to it's bigger boat is also the only one that goes to gili meno or gili in all, a good experience. The company and boat did what they should and kept what they promised.
